Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you always wanted to know about CSSMania but were afraid to ask:

What is CSS Mania?

It is currently the most updated CSS Showcase in the world, using a mixed perl/php/mysql script. Yes, we do use other CSS showcases as input, but we also pay close attention to the feedback we receive from people like you. A CSS Showcase is a website that showcases web sites developed using XHTML & CSS (Tableless). As far as we know, the first site of this type (CSS+XHTML) was Paul Scrivens' site CSS Vault in November 2003.

For more info about XHTML and CSS: see our Recommended readings about web standards.

What do we want CSS Mania to be?

A reference site that combines the typical services of a CSS Showcase with new services that we are planning. We want to make CSS Mania a useful teaching tool for professionals and companies with web presence who are interested in the latest in web site building and learning about the best developers specializing in web standards.

Who are we?

CSS Mania was born in March of 2004 as a section on Gabriel Segura's personal blog. In February of 2006 we began the current phase on cssmania.com as a service of Blogs Media, a company made up of prominent figures of the Hispanic blogosphere. Read more

What is the submission criteria for sites featured on CSS-Mania?

Basically just one: web sites written in XHTML/CSS (tableless) with an appealing aesthetic.

If you submit a site that isn't yours, you must include the name, URL, and location of the developer.

If your site is very obviously a copy of another we won't include it.

Don't worry if the website is not fully compliant.

How can I speed up the "Submit" process?

Use this form to submit a new or redesigned website. If the site has recently been featured in another CSS gallery, don't think you're wasting your time submitting it here -- we will pay attention to your posting. If you have an online portfolio, create an RSS feed of your latest designs so that our system may syndicate it. It's also important to include your city where you live.

Why don't we use tags?

We think the topic categories are enough. Originally, we were going to use tags for each screenshot but we will reserve them for future services we are planning.

The ratings system -- does it use cookies?

Of course you can delete cookies and vote again, but won't spend too much time weeding out votes from the same IP. We trust the honesty of our community.

What should I do if the screenshot/information is wrong?

You may have noticed that your site or your designs are located in galleries and that the data filled in for them is not 100% correct. Let us know. If some data is missing it is mainly because when we generate your screenshot, the information doesn't appear in the credits nor in the footer, nor in the about section (if applicable). This means also that it doesn't appear in your stylesheet when the source of your web page is viewed under meta name="author". The same applies for your country. If this is the case, just drop us an e-mail.

The date for when the screenshot is posted is 7 months after we launched the site. That's okay with us -- at least it is listed. Either way, contact us and we will update the date to whenever you want.
