What we understand with Web Standards?

The World Wide Web Consortium, along with other groups and standards associations, have established technologies for creating and interpreting web-based content. These technologies, which we call web standards, are carefully designed to deliver the greatest benefits to the greatest number of web users while ensuring the long-term viability of any document published on the Web.

Designing and building with these standards simplifies and lowers the cost of production, while delivering sites that are accessible to more people and more types of Internet devices. Sites developed along these lines will continue to function correctly as traditional desktop browsers evolve, and as new Internet devices come to market.

CSS webpages and benefits using Web Standards

Though the sheer ease of creating HTML pages has clearly been beneficial to the Web's growth, it's also been a curse. Because they're so forgiving, web browsers have allowed people to write code that doesn't stick to the clearly outlined guidelines specified by the creators of HTML.

Web standards force you to check for errors. Simply declaring which version of HTML (or, for that matter, XML) you're using will let you validate your pages against those specifications. Validation turns HTML into something like a scripting language. So, basically, the benefits are speed development, simplify maintenance, increase opportunity, open up access points, reduce bandwith costs and improve user experience.

Lack of uniform support for W3C standards left many consumers frustrated: when using the wrong browser, many could not view content or perform desired transactions. Among those most frequently hurt were people with disabilities or special needs.
