No problem with bandwith

Tuesday Dec 05, 2006 · Categories: Development.-

Ok, we know! You all wanted to have more screenshots in the main index. You wanted more than 14 screenshots. Ok, you know! We didn't want to. We do have 1.4521 Tb/month with 14 screenshots. But we really pay attention to our audience and their wishes so here we go with 18 screenshots in the main index. We expect to go up to 2.3 Tb/month in terms of bandwith offered/consumed by our insane server. We think we can pay them! No matter what ; we will have to pay them!.

What's next? Do your calculations and let us know in the comments our daily traffic in terms of unique visits (daily) / hits (daily)? Why? Cause Santa Claus is here with us and you can have a gift from him?

On December 5th the total home page size is approximately 294,628 bytes. Since a terabyte is 1,099,511,627,776 bytes and there are on average 30 days in a month, you expect to serve 84,295,891,462 bytes per day. If visitors were only hitting the home page you would be getting approximately 286,109 hits per day.

Given that the home page screenshots aren't all the same size, not every page is the same size, some files are cached, days in a month vary and not every hit is unique I would guess the hits per day being around 200,000-250,000.

Ok Guys, I'm a humble (trainee, might I add) designer, and any attempt I'd make to calculate this would be about as clear as mud.

However, Tristan seems to know his stuff. I suppose the one thing that matters now is whether or not he's right. Any feedback?

I'm going to say between 175,000 and 200,000 hits / day

I'm going to say 130,000.

100,000 / 200,000 daily.
